Programs
Rigorous Curriculum
All students are provided with rigorous curriculum which is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Qualified students in 1st through 8th grade have the opportunity to take an accelerated program of study. Students are placed in accelerated courses using multiple measures including teacher recommendation, achievement report grades, and district/state test data.
Gifted and Talented Education
Our Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) program begins with a standards-based core curriculum. Teachers utilize Acceleration/Pacing, Depth, Complexity, and Novelty to provide appropriate differentiated challenges. We offer a PALS Cluster in Grades 1 and 2 and GATE Clusters using a Total School-Wide Model in Grades 3 - 5. In middle school, we offer Accelerated Courses in ELA, Math/Algebra, History, and Science.

Drone Soccer
Cubberley started the first middle school Drone Soccer teams in October, 2023. The club competed in the U.S. Drone Soccer quarterfinals in January 2024 at Cabrillo High School and held an exhibition at the Cubberley Middle School of Choice night in March 2024. More competitions are planned for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.
Community Service
#cubberleycares
Cubberley believes in the importance of educating the whole child. We provide students with lessons in topics such as character education, social-emotional learning, and diversity and inclusion. and instruct students on the importance of serving the community and assisting those who may be less fortunate or who may be going through difficult circumstances. Cubberley students are provided opportunities to participate in monthly community service projects throughout the school year. In addition, some students take action on their own to raise money for causes that are dear to their hearts. Several middle school students serve as student aides, peer tutors, student government representatives, or as student mentors.
High School Readiness
In order to develop skills which will be necessary for high school and beyond, Cubberley sets high expectations beginning in the primary grades. We emphasize scholarly habits and the importance of daily school attendance. Students are encouraged to read at home in order to build their vocabulary and comprehension skills. In order to be considered "Middle School Ready", students in Grade 5 are expected to reach the Met or Exceeded level in math facts fluency and should be reading at or above grade level before they transition to middle school. In order to be considered "High School Ready", middle school students are expected to maintain at least a 2.5 GPA, earn a C or better in ELA and Mathematics, should have a 96% or higher attendance rate, and should have no suspensions. Interventions are available to help all students achieve these goals.

Our Kids' Club before and after school child care program is a well-defined, exemplary program for Transitional Kindergarten through Eighth grade students which is developmental, age-appropriate, enriching and supplemental to the family, school and community. It is staffed and supervised by Long Beach Unified School District personnel.
